Dedicated to the memory of Aileen Halka

This site is a tribute to Aileen Halka. She is much loved and will always be remembered.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Aileen Halka, a much loved and respected wife, dear mother, grandmother and friend.

Aileen died on 15 January 2022 at Watford General Hospital following a courageous 19 month battle with cancer (neuroendocrine tumour).

She will be forever missed by:
- her husband Roman, with whom she would have celebrated 50 years of marriage in June;
- her children - Juliette, Annie, Andrew, Kate, Bryan and their partners;
- her grandchildren;
- brothers and sisters in Ireland and France and wider family;
- and many, many friends.

Aileen and Roman had moved to Hertfordshire in May 2021 to be more central to their children, having lived in Ripon, North Yorkshire for 25 years. Originally from County Cork in Ireland, Aileen moved to Glasgow, Scotland when she married Roman in 1972 and then spent 11 years in Ware in Hertfordshire before moving to Yorkshire.

Aileen was dedicated to her family and to raising and supporting her five children. A devout Roman Catholic, Aileen also gave much time to her faith and, in particular, in service to the parish of St Wilfred’s Church in Ripon where she was a Eucharistic Minister, distributing Communion to the elderly and infirm at local care homes and hospices. Aileen was severely deaf and also made many friends through her local Hard of Hearing group.

No words can adequately express our sorrow at the loss of the warmest, kindest and most gentle of souls.

We would kindly request that anyone who wishes to send flowers etc, instead makes a donation in Aileen’s memory to either Macmillan Cancer Support or Rennie Grove Hospice Care, both organisations having helped Aileen and the family throughout her illness.

Funeral arrangements are still being finalised, please contact Roman or any one of Aileen’s children for the details.
